This tunnel was built to flush waste from the canal to the East River. ON MAY 3, 2005, WE WENT ON A FIELD TRIP TO THE GOWANUS CANAL. WE WORKED WITH AN ORGANIZATION OF.
Reviving the Gowanus Canal through Recreation, Education and Advocacy for over 19 years. Our organization promotes waterfront stewardship and is raising awareness of sewer overflow issues that affect our Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY. Activities are conducted on the canal and shoreline, with occasional voyages to neighboring waterfront communities of Red Hook, Sunset Park and Brooklyn Heights.
